The main protagonist of Hyōka, he is a rational boy who lives by "If I don't have to do something, I won't, but if I have to, I'll do it quickly." He only joins the Classic Literature Club at the request of his older sister, Tomoe Oreki, to stop it from being dissolved. He says that he doesn't like to waste energy, but if given a mystery to consider, he will see it through until it is solved with his brilliantly logical deductions. To him, Eru is "someone he can't ignore," hinting that he may have feelings for her. At her urging, he soon finds himself more involved with high school life.

Hōtarō Oreki has a very passive, calm and seemingly apathetic attitude. Along with his passive demeanor, Oreki seems to always "conserve energy" and never exerts effort on anything unless absolutely necessary; thus coming off as lazy. Also, because of his attitude, Hōtarō talks little and seldomly shouts or gets angry, though he does appear to get irritated often, and Oreki also rarely smiles and has never seen laughing. On the other hand, Oreki is surprisingly wise and clever, unbelievably good at solving mysteries and seems to be able to always find a solution if he gives it enough thought.

Despite Hōtarō's energy-conserving personality, he is capable of appreciating praise, and has shown to have a tendency of exerting more than what he would typically give when given positive feedback.

HOUTAROU OREKI  IS THE MOST ADORABLE BOY IN THIS WORLD. Lol

Even he was just an anime character, but he is much much better than any guy I’ve ever met.

All those other character? well they awesome. Really.

But Houtarou is the the only one who can make me feel until the 4th condition in LoveLove Condition. Lol

There is 5 condition when you fall-in-love:

When the first time you see  someone’s bad behavior, you actually dislike it but that things won’t run from your head. Everytime you see him/her, you’ll get annoyed.

Then when you discovered the other side of him is really something, you wont believe it.  But that thing is make you want to know more about him/her.

3. 100 % Love Love

You actually found out that you are enchanted by him/her. You would really really  want to see him/her everytime if possible. You’ll think of him everyday. This called 100% Love-love or Fix felt-in-love.

4. 1000% Love Love

In this condition, whenever you see him/her you’ll get frozen and can’t breathe. Because you found out that you fall over him again and again. And everytime you see him/her  you’ll scream out his name as loud as you can. You would hug and kiss him/her in that time. And you really-really want to be with him, because you’ll think of him every minutes. Nah, that’s what I feel. Houtarou makes me crazy.

5. 2000% Love Love

This is the final condition, honestly I don’t feel this yet.

“You’re too perfect. Why don’t you just die?” or statement like that will running in your mind. Got it? I mean, I never felt that way yet. So, I can’t described it.
